Helston Railway wins Planning Appeal
Tuesday, 7th June, 2016 - By Barbara Barnes
The Helston Railway has finally been granted the Planning Application that was first applied for in 2013.
The Inspector granted the Appeal on 02 June 2016 for planning permission for an extension of the track, new platform and sidings, car park, and access road. The temporary platform may also be retained until the new platform is brought into service.
James Packman the Chairman of the Railway Operating Company said; “This is a milestone in the history of our project”. “We will now be able to extend our train services right up to our car park area and provide our visitors with a first class heritage railway attraction.
He also said; “There is a tremendous amount of work to be done. However, all our volunteers are on tremendous form as usual and looking forward to the challenge”.
It is sad that the process of gaining planning permission has been so lengthy and time consuming, but we now look forward to working with the local Council to improve the facilities for both tourists who come to visit this lovely part of Cornwall, and our large number of local visitors”.
It will be business as usual for passengers at the Helston Railway on Sundays and Thursdays until 30th October. There will also be Santa Specials running in December.
The Railway will, as usual, provide a friendly welcome to anyone who comes along, and they can either take a ride, or just sit in the buffet car for a cup of tea and a chat. There is no charge for car parking and kids under 5 ride free.
