due to access problems - "new rolling stock on it's way" is on hold
117 refurbishment project
All the seats are out and being re-upholstered. Floor is up and the side panels stripped ready to be replaced. Doors are also coming along.
November 2017 Progress
Work has started on the interior refurbishment - first class is in better shape than the toilets and second class and so work is starting there.
So - as an immediate solution to our capacity problem we have initiated a project to re-furbish the 117 (which we now own).
October - the 117 gets a trip down to Truthall to make sure the undercarriage and bearings are in good working order prior to hose down and the start of refurbishing work.
The 1st Class cabin is in better condition and so we have removed the seats for re-upholstering and will clean the compartment prior to starting on the remainder of the carriage.
New rolling stock on it's way
We had so many visitors in 2016 that we had queues of vistors waiting for trips up the line using our brake vans.
With the introduction of steam in 2017 we badly need extra capacity to handle the much larger visitor numbers.
We have been offered 3 units "free - as long as we can transport them".
Carriage from National Railway Museum
A suburban Mark 1 carriage is available. It is in working order but requires some renovation work. HRPS will own this carriage.
Funding needed for transport from York - £4,000.
Carriage from GWR Preservation Society - Southall
A carriage is available in exchange for the work we are doing on William Murdoch. HRPS will own this carriage.
